Here is adding to your knowledge:

    1. Hindi and English are the official [aka National] languages of the Union. That is all govt., official and academic documents are required to be in either of the two languages, usually both!

    2. Apart from English, there are 22 official languages [with over 1 million speakers as minimum] as recognized by the states in Union:

Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

    3. There are 50 regional languages with speakers over 100,000 speakers and around 1652 recognized languages spoken in India overall, as per census!

    That should be mind-boggling, huh?
