I’ve waffled between color and black and white for the strips, but there’s just something about color that makes me feel it’s the best route for future Uncubed comics. Yes, it takes me longer to finish a strip – but the results are so much more satisfying. So, I’ve decided – color from now on, it is.

I’m really glad Aarti never got to see the needle the anasthesiologist used to administer her epidural…

This week on the Gigcast, the podcast for webcomic news and sundry, hosts JT Shea and Scott bring me in to discuss content management systems for webcomics. If you’ve ever wanted to start your own webcomic, but have fears of having to learn HTML – or simply want to know a few options, this show is for you.

Nurses have to ask the strangest questions. We arrived at the hospital a few minutes past midnight and were shown into a room, whereupon our nurse literally went through 4 pages of such questions. Standard protocol, no doubt – but annoying? Hell yes.

P.S. Some of the archived toons will appear to have a large left and right border of white around them. No need to get alarmed. Effective immediately, I’ve standardized the size of the comic to a width of 1000 pixels, to match The PC Weenies. This will give the art much more ‘breathing room’ than before.
There’s a nice write-up by Boomer Cardinale on the impact of webcomics in 2008. Cardinale’s thesis is that the aspiring cartoonist should turn to the web instead of seeking syndication, and that the media is increasingly looking at the webcomic landscape for properties. It’s well-written, thought-provoking and includes citations to back his claims.
Webcomics are the future of the comic strips, whether syndicates accept them or not.

Happy New Year!
Uncubed is back – fresh off its one month long hiatus. As you know, Sonia was born in early December. A whole lot of events have happened since that point in time, and what I am planning to do with the next several strips is chronicle Sonia’s arrival.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry… well, I hope you’ll just stick around each week – to see how it all unfolds.
