Sonia’s first birthday party was a smashing success! Here’s a snap of Daddy and Mommy assisting with the “make-a-wish” part. Mom’s in the background.
Mumbai was attacked a few nights ago, and Aarti and I are still reeling from the news. Our immediate family is safe and secure. The streets are empty, as everyone is afraid of going out. One of Aarti’s best friends lost her parents and brother in the attack, and now lies in the hospital in critical condition. She is unaware of the fate of her family. Only a few days back, Aarti connected with her friend of Facebook, and was showing excitedly showing me pictures of her recent trips.
Watching this terrible tragedy unfold on the news only reinforces a sense of anger and helplessness I feel on the whole situation. All we can do is wait for the terrorists to be caught.
Aarti and I have been to both the Taj Hotel and the Oberoi – we have such fond memories of both places. It’s so difficult to imagine the scene that must be playing out there now.
Extremism is never a solution, and violence only begets more violence. And many of the recruits in these organizations are brain-washed into believing some perverted ideology.
It’s so sad.
Justice must prevail, and I hope that these so called terrorists (cowards) are swiftly caught and brought to immediate justice.

This toon idea was suggested by Aarti – I think it captures the relationship my dad and I have to a tee.

It’s been a year, and Aarti and I still find ourselves waking up between 2 to 3 times a night because of Sonia’s crying. Many parents we’ve spoken to say that after 6 months their children have no troubles sleeping through the entire night. We’ve been waiting for that moment to arrive.
Sonia doesn’t nap much during the day – though we’ve tried to get her into a fixed nap time routine. If she goes down for her nap, she sleeps, at the most, for an hour.
Aarti and I have forgotten what a good night of sleep really feels like. Sonia’s started solid foods a few months back, and we try to feed her well, but I’m wondering if there’s something else we might be overlooking. We desperately need our sleep…

A very interesting film that takes a look at the effect of money. Highly recommended. If you found this film thought-provoking (like I certainly did), check out the original film.

It’s hard for me to imagine, but we’ll be celebrating Sonia’s 1st birthday in two weeks. It seems as if it was just yesterday when we brought her home from the hospital…
The time has really flown by.
Parenting has been a real… adventure for us both. I wanted to share a few of my reflections on being a Dad, one year into the experience, especially for those of you out there who plan on having kids at some point in the near future. Without further ado, I present:
The Things I’ve Learned (so far) About Being a Dad:
- I don’t need as much sleep as I did before.
- I don’t get as much sleep as I did before.
- I was petrified at first of changing Sonia’s diaper, but it became second nature after a week of regular diaper duty.
- I am so lucky to have my Wife. I don’t know how Aarti manages to take care of me and Sonia so well. She’s a Super-Woman.
- There are days where I feel like I’m not a good parent.
- I’m much more safety conscious around the house.
- I need to watch Sonia like a hawk. When the room is quiet, she’s probably up to mischief.
- I love watching Sonia’s sense of wonder and excitement when she explores the world. It’s so pure and uplifting.
- I’ve learned to let go when Sonia accidentally damages something I care about.
- I don’t miss going out so much.
What have you learned about being a parent?

One of the best highlights of my day is seeing Sonia peek at me as she crawls into my office. I tried my best to capture it visually, but nothing beats the real thing.
