Go see it. Easily one of the best films of 2008.

We’ve had mixed results with the Ferber method… which was probably invented by someone who didn’t have to stay in the same room as their own kids.

Sometimes, in life, we think we have problems that can’t be overcome. After watching this video, featuring Nick Vujicic, it brought a certain sense of humility, awe, and hope. Hopefully it will inspire you as well.

Cartoonist / Illustrator Ted Seko and myself have a discussion on culutural identity and how it plays a part in making comics. It was quite a candid discussion, and I would like to thank Ted for the opportunity to appear on his podcast. You can listen to the show here, via Talkshoe, or better yet -subscribe via iTunes (totally free!).

I started working on the comic you see before you in yesterday evening. At first, I couldn’t get any ideas to gel. I thought I had “writer’s block”. Then I decided to make a strip about feeling “writer’s block” when the idea for the strip hit me. Why not commemorate the fact that our little Sonia is now walking? And so it came to pass.
Enjoy!

My course schedule this quarter has me teaching on Mondays (all day) and Tuesday’s in the afternoon. This doesn’t give me much of an opportunity to work on UN3, so I’m moving the publishing schedule to Wednesdays from here on out. Of course, I’ll continue to update the blog whenever I do…

So, just a brief update on Sonia’s sleeping situation (which I’ll document in a forthcoming UNcubed strip). As many of you know, Sonia doesn’t like to stay in her crib and fall asleep on her own. We’ve tried leaving her in there, but she’ll howl and cry for an hour before the exhaustion forces her to sleep.
We’ve closed the door, we’ve tried to leave, but we’ve stuck to our guns. Just yesterday I tried something different. Instead of putting her in her crib, when it was time for her to go to sleep, I brought her into my office, turned on iTunes and played a few Michael Jackson tunes with the screensaver visualizer active.
After a few minutes she started to nod off. When she was just on the verge of falling asleep, I put her into her crib. There was no resistance on her part. Wanting to test a hunch, I tried the same tactic this evening.
It worked again, like a charm. I don’t mind this type of bed time ritual, as long as it gives us a little more peace and quiet at night. So, thank you Michael Jackson, and thank you iTunes. You’ve made two very tired parents happy.

I really enjoyed this speech by J. Krishnamurti. I wish I had listened to this years ago. The man was a true Thinker.

Yes, I caught the cold / sore throat thing going around.
I was feeling fine until I went into work yesterday – I’m almost certain that’s where I caught the bug. I did the usual: on the onset, popped some Airborne, 2 Tylenol, some Vitamin C tablets and a few Ricola.
The good news is: I’m feeling a lot better comparatively than I did last night. I’ll spare you the phlegmy details, but getting sick during the academic break is almost a routine for me.
In other news, if you want to see UNcubed in print form, you’re in luck. No, it’s not an entire volume of UN3 (as much as I would like to see that happen.) It’s a few pages of strips for the NightGig Sampler #4, which is currently available for pre-order. I also designed the cover for the issue (see below), available in “mint” condition and “distressed” condition (as a MegaCON / pre-order exclusive).
I’ve contributed PCW and UN3 strips for this special issue, which also features work from other talented ‘toonists (KC Green, Riot, Chuck Rowles, Mike Moss, and many more!). This issue marks the first time UN3 appears in print. Pretty cool!
If all goes well, I’ll be making an appearance at MegaCON in Orlando this year. I’ll be up for Saturday (at least that’s the plan). I’ll sign copies at the NightGig booth, if anyone’s interested.
So order your copy today, folks!
