The Taj Mahal of Bangladesh

If you build it, they will come. Apparently, some people in India are upset at the notion of a Taj Mahal type structure erected in Bangladesh. The Indian government wants to sue as the design, according to them, infringes their copyright. I personally feel that there are enough differences to where the Bangladesh structure can stand on its own.

Even if there were a question of copyright, the copyright has long expired. It’s just posturing.

Not to mention, was there even such a thing as copyright law when the Taj Mahal was designed and built?

I agree with the guy from Dehli that the Bangladeshis should have made their own monuments, but I don’t think any one has the right to say that they can’t build replicas of other people’s. This “copyright infringement” is nonsense.

It anyway looks like a cheap copy. I wouldn’t care about it. It’s not like people are going to leave the original and flock to this.

I agree with Rohit that it looks like a cheap copy. His minarets look more like lighthouses. I don’t think it’s any more a threat to the real Taj Mahal than the replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas are to the real French landmarks.
