OTOH, that “picassoed chair” may end up on the curb for some lucky do-it-yourselfer to find, repaint or refinish.

That’s how I got my new nightstand. Great peice of solid furniture with obviously child artwork on the white finish. One paint job later, voila!

There was a bunch of ads of American Express during the nineties, dealing with just that. Kids did what they saw being done by adults. This one adult fed the new VCR with a tape and said “It is verrry hungry”. So the kid took its porridge and “fed” the VCR. Of course, American Express replaced it (the VCR, not the kid).
And yes, I have raised three rascals and got used to own old, used or otherwise inexpensive things, saving college money + x for replacing the garbage in my household with beautiful furniture, when the kids have moved out.
Have patience. A picassoed dining chair may be valuable one day. The slightly dented car when she turns 18 + 1 day just looses value.
