Oi-I sympathize with this one. My vision gradually worsened as well in Elementary-but we were broke and I was afraid of letting anyone realize I needed glasses.

By the time I was in middle school, sitting in the front was not longer a cure all-and my father, finally divorced, took me to the eye doctor's.

Sadly, my vision has only worsened- xD

Didn't mean to ramble, but I liked the comic!

This reminds me a bit of when I found I was short-sighted. Actually I don't think its as big a deal now as it used to be - people in glasses are such a common sight. I was quite happy to get mine. All my family had them and they can look pretty cool.

My 6 year old daughter just got glasses to correct her lazy eye - and she was so excited. The other kids in her class were jealous.
Doubt she would have the same reaction if she were 8 years older.

Boy, does this hit home. I started wearing glasses when I was four: bifocals. I had strabismus (cross eyes) as well as myopia. By the time I was six, I was so sick of the constant pummeling at school that I flushed my glasses down the toilet just to get out of wearing them (that lasted about a month, until my parents could buy me new ones).

I got surgery for the strabismus when I was 21, didn't need bifocals as a result, and went to contacts for awhile, but got tired of messing them and went back to glasses.

Now I'm getting presbyopia and need bifocals again .

@Blaine: what on earth sort of eye exercises can one do to correct the fact light does not fall onto the retina? It's the shape of the eye itself that is the problem, not the eye muscles. Not saying it isn't true, I'm just surprised and curious.

It's funny, I have had glasses since I was 6 and my wife has had them since she was 10. My oldest had to get them at 6, but my youngest does not need them so far. My youngest wants glasses so bad she can't stand it. She even has some reading glasses she likes to wear to be "part of the family". She so badley wants to be a geek/nerd like the rest of us but she will have to face the fact some day that she is cool and not a nerd. Poor girl.

Actually, doing eye exercises can improve your vision. There have been studies done in the UK where people have been able to remove their need for contacts or glasses after 4 or 5 months of work. Of course, it's tough to go 4 or 5 months w/o wearing your glasses since that can set you back (if I recall correctly).
